The Petal Arts Council is excited to begin involving local businesses in our Petal Mural Project. We are seeking local businesses in Petal with an exterior wall near a high-traffic roadway, which would be ideal for a mural. Interior walls can also be considered if they are located in a high-traffic hallway or lobby. The Petal Mural Project aims to provide these art installations free of charge to the business owner. We are currently collecting potential mural sites in hopes of work happening in 2027 and 2028.

Completion dates depend on the timing of a walkthrough and the council's decision on the art site, finding the best muralist for the job through a 'Call for Artists', securing sponsorship and funding for mural supplies, and favorable weather for successful completion. The Petal Arts Council sponsored mural designs do not include business names or business logos.

The Petal Arts Council pays selected artists for their labor. Local sponsors like Sherwin-Williams and the City of Petal donate paint. Because project funds are limited, large murals may require extra fundraising or sponsorships before work begins.

Paint drying times and your schedule may conflict. We also plan around safe temperatures for the artist.

If approved and matched, muralists and business owners must sign a clear contract. This agreement outlines project details, liability rules, and the duties of each person involved.

The business must agree to keep the mural visible for at least two years before painting over it.
